Here's another collaboration between s2ka (Leonardo M. Geron) and myself.  Little Red Riding Hood, of course!  I may of effed up her boob a little bit... woops.  That's karma. This collab, as well as this new art post into the robowebs in general, was long overdue.  But, like I told Leonardo, the best I can offer up is that I've been doing a lot of soul searching lately and its taken ...

Here are some black and white editorial illustrations I did, commemorating the anniversary of women getting the vote in Canada. Two of the major players in the fight for the vote were William Lyon MacKenzie King, whom was Prime Minister of Canada at the time, and Nellie McClung, whom was a part of the Famous Five women who fought for the vote.  The illustration above was made to depict the fact ...

CMYK Magazine Volume #43 just hit stores, and my complimentary copy also came in the mail.  I'm really happy to see my work alongside the work of some really amazing illustrators, some of which I have been fans of for quite a while.  There's also a really great section on what makes a good web design which is teaching me a few things.  Expect some site updates on monkeyslunch.com and ...

Here's my 2nd ever digital painting.  I think it worked out pretty well in the end, and it was a really great learning experience.  I really wish I had started doing these sooner.  I never realized how much fun it could be to work with straight shape, color and tone as opposed to line and ink.  I think I will continue to develop both processes now. I tried to follow some ...

Here's some quick conceptual work, expanding the entire overlapping world of my first Popgun short comic, Breath. This was actually my first attempt at doing anything entirely digital.  A pretty quick job on both of these, but they turned out pretty good for what they're worth.  As always, click the images for larger views. I've started a Twitter account which you're more than welcome to check out and follow. I've been ...

Recently Diamond Distribution, North America's largest comic books distributor, raised its benchmark for sales from $1500 to $2500 and its been having negative feedback all around. For those of you that don't quite understand what that means, most of the indy titles you love would no longer be distributed, most books that have sold under 300 copies (which are a lot of the books on the top 300 list) would not ...

Howdy folks.  I had a little bit of time today to create a new CMYK color wheel swatch set for myself and thought I would share it with the rest of you!  Hope you like it!  If you're looking for others there are a couple more in the resources section of my blog. Download Once downloaded, go into Photoshop and under your swatches palette go to “Load Swatches” if you have a ...

Here's a fun fan poster I did for the Decemberists/Illustration class. Just my own interpretation of their lyrics and a yearning to draw different types of birds here. Taking more time in the initial drawing stages to flesh things out. Think it helps a lot.  Might send it to the band for their fan art section on the website.  That website, by the way, is also offering ...

Happy New Year, Folks! Just thought I would let you know that if you're in the Calgary area you can come by the 1111 show today at any point to see some work by myself and my friends Chase Toole, Scott Carmichael and Roxanne Wang.  This is a very interesting show because the organizer, Paul, was trying to get 1111 artists to submit work for the show.  I couldn't say for ...

This here is a collaboration between myself and a new online friend, s2ka from Deviantart. This guy has some really intense mad drawing skills. He did this way back in 2000, so you can imagine how he's improved since then. You should go check him out now. He drew it, I inked it! The inks: His drawing:

I've written a short story for my illustration class that I then had to roughly storyboard out.  So, I designed this story, Chikan Abu Mukashibanashi (roughly translated from Japanese to The Perverted Horsefly Folktale), to be an animated short.  Here's the rough idea: The tale starts with a young man spying on his wife in the bath.  She kicks him out for being a pervert and he goes wandering in the ...

Growth.  Something I feel I could benefit from lately.  I think in the next semester I'll try to make things more complicated and intricate.  It is the last semester of school after all.  One of my good friends has also dared me to paint more, and to actually attempt it on some serious projects.  So perhaps you'll see some more of that as well! I left my comfort zone a little ...

Those two things go together, don't they?  I figured I'd share a couple figures from the latest figure drawing session.  I haven't gone in quite a while because I've had so much work to do, but I found the time a few days ago and quite enjoyed it.  The turtle head is a study for an upcoming illustration which you shall hopefully be seeing soon.  If you're wondering what some ...

Sometimes its good just to draw some fluff.  Makes a guy feel good every once in a while.  No big concept here, just some nude life drawing with some cherry blossoms.  This may be a rough for more finished painting, who knows. This was a huge drawing for me though.  Must've been somewhere around 18 x 24, ink on Reeves.

So, this one is from about the middle of the semester, but another one that I had forgotten to post.  This is a poster for the Marquis, a series put by Guy Davis, one of the best comic book artists of our time.  Go check it out if you haven't, order it if you need to. This isn't one of my favorite pieces, lots of art direction on this one.

A school illustration project based on Hannibal that was fulfilling process wise but not necessarily in the finished product.  A few of my instructors have expressed they like this piece, especially as a series of images if I were to include all of the color comps and roughs, and some of my peers have said so as well, but I really do not feel that the final piece of the ...
