I'd have to agree with you entirely, Lilian. I'm quite happy the first response to this was from a semantic and conceptual point of view instead of a visual one in nature. I think that the first thing designers should consider when creating a website is functionality, usability and ease of use, clarity, and of course truth. I've actually stumbled upon quite a few blogs lately where they've absolutely cluttered the layout with advertisements and search words that have nothing to do with what they're blogging about one bit, and it makes me shudder.

Your comment really encourages me to keep on track as much as possible, and I appreciate that.

I think minimalistic designs can go either way. Sometimes I see stupid trend words being used in favour of ones that actually sell the product, or a generic aesthetic being used out of context. The only thing I think design should be is appropriate - in being appropriate, things like SEO should occur organically. As such, I do believe in an optimal amount of information all websites should convey on the main page - whether visual or semantic. All visitors should be able to discern an ethos about the company and its products at first glance (which is why good copy writing is as important as good design). Without that, the brand has no soul.
