Growth.  Something I feel I could benefit from lately.  I think in the next semester I’ll try to make things more complicated and intricate.  It is the last semester of school after all.  One of my good friends has also dared me to paint more, and to actually attempt it on some serious projects.  So perhaps you’ll see some more of that as well!

I left my comfort zone a little on this one and tried watering down my inks.  I don’t think I like how it turned out overall but there are some really strong parts and it was worth the experimentation, what do you think?  I’m interested in how Frazetta waters down some of his inks to create more depth, and I think I’ll attempt more of his approach rather to the one I’ve concocted here.  Perhaps I shall post some colors as well once I am more comfortable with them.  I’ve also invited the opportunity to color these on DeviantArt, so again if anyone would like to color ‘em let me know and I can provide a higher res file, assuming that you would credit and link back to the originals.

A friend of mine had asked me for tips on how to drive more site traffic and I had my own opinions but I’m still a little curious myself.  I generally comment on other people’s work, websites, blogs, forums, and that seems to help a lot for me.  One thing that usually starts to help is when I can keep up some sort of schedule for posting.  I am interested to know what anyone out there thinks though.  Do you know of any ways to get your blog or website noticed?  To increase traffic in general or just comments?

  1. To drive in traffic, you can get your site featured in gallery with high traffic volume such as CSSMania or WeLoveWP (if your site is hosted by WordPress). This will definitely drive in more people into your site. Another way is to write interesting and controversial issues which will pique people’s interest and write attention-catching headlines.

  2. Definitely a “schedule for posting”. That helps readers know that they should keep checking back. Commenting is also very important :)

  3. Regular updates are very important. That lets your readers know that there’s a point in coming back. Commenting just reminds your “blog circle” that you exist, which is also important.

  4. Thanks ladies! All of that is incredibly helpful! Sarai, I’m thinking that it might actually be helpful for myself to make a schedule anyways, just because it will encourage me to keep making work.
I’ve got a few CSS things to tweak so everything appears alright in IE and then I’ll check out those groups, thanks Wendy!

  5. I like these pieces, Spenny. I don’t think I ever saw the inked versions. I think the first is extremely successful — especially the gradation on the turtle’s legs. Terrific. Really terrific. Do a little more of that on the second one and you’ll really start to cook.
